Ian continues green drive
Ian Hazel is continuing his quest to make his eponymous business as green as possible.
His Sutton Coldfield-based firm has won an Innovative Saver prize from comparison site Love Energy Savings, after installing a 78-panel solar energy system on its roof to generate enough electricity to cover almost 70% of its needs.
We have offered green funerals for many years
Its new premises already had under-floor heating, a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system, LED lighting with motion sensors and rainwater harvesting.
The firm, run by Ian and daughters Amy and Emma, has been just awarded the highest possible Energy Performance Certificate (A).
Ian (pictured with Amy on the greenest possible ‘hearse’) said he wanted to ensure the business was as sensitive to the environment as the services it offers.
“We have offered green funerals for many years – providing ethically-sourced coffins made of natural materials, woodland burials and other products and services that have become increasingly important to bereaved families,” he explained.
The firm will also shortly complete its two-year transition from petrol hearses and limousines to a diesel-powered Jaguar fleet, which are more fuel-efficient and produce lower emissions.
