Waterless shampoo proving a surprise hit with funeral directors
A towel-off shampoo that washes hair effectively without water is proving a crossover hit with funeral directors, who say it makes a great cadaver wash.
The shampoo – Nilaqua – works by being applied directly to the head, which is then massaged to lift dirt and grease and then simply towelled dry.
It has been aimed at the care and hospital sector as it is particularly useful when patients are bed-bound or in too much pain to move. However, recently, says Jess Efford, sales executive of manufacturers Waterless Ltd, several embalmers and funeral directors have shown great enthusiasm for the product.
“They say they must have Nilaqua, as nothing else waterless compares or works,” she added.
Nilaqua promises to be kind and gentle to skin and can be used repeatedly. It lifts dirt and blood from a body easily and has no alcohol or parabens. There are no complications with other chemicals and no masks or gloves are required.
“I am also told by funeral directors that, because it does not strip the skin, you do not need to use excess make up etc after cleansing,” said Jess.
Darren Hancock from D.L. Hancock Funeral Directors in Oxford and Bicester found the product online and is convinced of its efficacy in the funeral home: “Yours is the best shampoo I have ever come across,” he declares on the brand’s Facebook page. “It’s truly the only one that works.”
