Fifty good deeds to celebrate half century

Paul McDonald, a funeral director from Bradford on Avon, has chosen to mark a significant birthday in a slightly unusual way.

Rather than have a party or a mid-life crisis, Paul has pledged instead to celebrate his 50th birthday by accomplishing 50 good deeds.

The original plan was for Paul, who works CS Bowyer in the town, to undertake his missions in 50 days but that proved to be a step too far and it is now looking more like 50 weeks.

“I’ve asked people to nominate causes and tasks,” he said. “Including things that might not be needed yet but will be in the future.”

So far, his tasks have included digging up some land for a charity and helping out at a school fete.

“I’m quite new to the funeral business.” He added. “And this is helping to get my name known locally as well as making life easier for other people.”
