TV filming at Winchester funeral home
When Channel 4’s Time Team programme needed a funeral home as a location to film sections of a ‘burial special’, they turned to the historic premises of Richard Steel & Partners in Chesil Street, Winchester.
Series presenter Tony Robinson and archaeological expert Francis Pryor spent the morning filming at the family-owned funeral directors for an edition of the programme
The company’s service chapel was turned into a coffin showroom and its garden of remembrance – complete with flowing stream – provided a lovely background in the winter sunshine.
Featured coffins included a selection of veneers, together with a bamboo model and a colourful coffin for a more modern twist.
“We understand that Tony Robinson tried out the traditional solid oak for size,” said Iain Steel, who is pictured with Tony and Francis.
