New cremation industry container is 100% biodegradable
Fibrous Ltd is claiming its new Ecotainer is a first for the cremation industry – a container that is 100% biodegradable.
The Ecotainer took several years to develop but the intensive research has paid off and the company says its new product boasts all the functional benefits of its existing HDPE Polytainer, but with the added benefit that it breaks down to decompose completely.
Using a revolutionary additive technology, which renders its finished plastic biodegradable, the Ecotainer takes between nine months and five years to degrade, whether it is sent to landfill, buried in the ground or composted.
Its shelf life is indefinite and it requires no special handling. In addition, a newly designed lid has improved grip and locking.
“Here at Fibrous we have been aware for several years that customers have been looking for an eco-friendly alternative to the Polytainer,” said managing director Gemma Baty.
“In the quest to find a low cost, functional solution we carried out extensive research and development to produce a fully bio-degradable version. It’s taken around 24 months to get this to market but it’s been worth it and we are thrilled with the end result.
“Crematoriums and funeral directors will now be able to dispose of the Ecotainer in whichever way they see fit safe in the knowledge that it won’t be damaging the environment or its future and that is something we are very proud of.”
Samples and trial quantities are being sent out now to crematoria and funeral directors across the UK.
