50 years for fittings specialists
Flying the flag for British-made coffin handles are Herefordshire-based James and Williams Ltd, and the company celebrate 50 years involvement in the funeral industry this year.
The family-owned company was started in 1968 by John James, metallising items for the jewellery trade, decorative pot covers, fittings for the car industry and increasingly the funeral trade too. Their vacuum plating processes provide a high mirror finish for decorative items and funeral fittings.
In the 1970s the company began to manufacture their own coffin fittings and their first tool was the Kingstone and Hereford Handle.
With consistent investment in machinery, facilities, marketing and packaging, the company have moved with the times to remain one of the few UK-based businesses still serving the British funeral profession with these products.
Run today by brother and sister team Ray Williams and Gill Watkins, they are delighted to have reached such a notable landmark.
Ray puts the company’s longevity down to “a lot of hard work – we try to give everybody a good service”. He added that many designs still popular stretch back 100 years, proving that classic coffin fitting styles never really go out of fashion.
