FSJ welcomes articles, press releases and other items of business interest. As more and more of these are produced in electronic form and e-mailed to us here are some guidelines as to what forms of electronic submission are suitable. Attachments We do have difficulties from time to time in decoding attachments. This is usually because the attachments have been produced by a program which is not installed on our computers. We therefore prefer articles in Microsoft Word format (.doc) as attachments to an e-mail, with any pictures submitted as a separate attachment in .jpg format. This minimises the possibility of problems arising from the editor using a PC and the design and advertising studios using Macs. Graphic designers often send proofs in PDF format. Whilst we can read these we cannot edit them, so please avoid these. Pictures taken by electronic cameras are increasingly popular but depending on the camera settings, huge image files are sometimes produced, so please try to keep the file size reasonable: 30-50k should suffice. If you follow these guidelines it will help us a great deal: pressure for deadlines often means that “problem” attachments are ignored in favour of those that comply with our guidelines. |
