Coffin website adds ‘design your own’
The Somerset Willow Company has relaunched its willow coffin website with new features, including a ‘create your own coffin’ section.
An interactive tool allows funeral directors or their client families to choose a coffin design, its main colour and colour banding, and then see exactly what it will look like. The chosen design can then be shared via email, Twitter, Facebook or printed out, so that everyone involved in the funeral arrangements can see it.
The new look site will be the Bridgwater-based company’s key portal for funeral directors and retail customers wanting to access its range of products and services, and has been designed around the product ranges, which include traditional coffins, curved end caskets, the Colours range, children’s and baby caskets and ashes caskets.
The company, which is family-run and now into its fourth generation, has been trading since 1959. It started life as JE Hill as a basketmakers, diversifying gradually into garden furniture, picnic baskets, hot air balloon baskets and bespoke willow furniture, adding willow coffins to the repertoire in 1998.
The company evolved into The Somerset Willow Company in 1988 and the company now has Somerset Willow Growers to supply its willow. Seagrass and cane coffins are available through sister company Natural Woven Products.
The company is still a family concern and is committed to maintaining traditional skills whilst also meeting current requirements. Every one of the basket makers the company employs completes a minimum five-year training programme.
